Getting your Car towed with no warning!
I admit, I have a HUGE car, it's a company car, there isn't much I can do about it, but getting towed by your neighbors, sucks!! I parked infront of a single family home on Bay street and made sure (three times) that my car was not hanging over their driveway at all. I know single family homes are quicker to tow than others, so I even backed up and was blocking a bit of the big apt building parking just to be on the safe side. 4 hours later I come back and think I am losing my mind because my car is missing! I called Auto tow and found out the single family home had towed my car and it would cost $255 dollars to get it back!! I was furious! I went to the house and rang the doorbell and a 35 year old women answered. At first she denied towing my car, and said maybe her husband did. I was ploite and just wanted to inform her that her decision to tow, cost me $300 by the time I cabbed it to the police station, and that she could have just written a note that said, please don't park here again, it was hard to get into our driveway. She was so RUDE! 300 dollars for nothing!!! Aghhh,,,,,,, Marina people!

Anonymous (12/8): How would you feel if you lived there and people did this all the time? You need to think about the other side of the coin! (report)
tahoejab (12/8): If the owners have problems with people parking too close to their driveway, then they should 1. put a sign on the tree by the spot, saying, "if you are too close, we will tow!" 2. have the curb painted red! (that is an indicator that this home owner means business when it comes to parking) 3. paint white lines on the street indicating where the car needs to be behind in order for them to get in! BTW, I was NOT blocking their driveway, I was 4 inches from the end of the curb, but apparently there is an 8 inch rule that I didn't know about. (report)
Anonymous (12/9): Sorry, I think you were in the wrong here. I live in a 2 unit building and people are always parking riiiight up to the curb - and it makes it impossible to get in or out. Especially when the cars on both sides are doing it! Literally, when this happens (at least twice a week) we cannot get a car in/out of the garage - imagine how that feels when you are trying to get to work or to something important to you. We are forever leaving notes but I really don't think people care - they are selfish, lazy and of the "me first" attitude. Also, I can't believe you would hang over an apartment building, that is putting even more people at a disadvantage!! If your car doesn't fit, keep looking - common courtesy should prevail. (report)
Anonymous (2/11): I live in New Orleans next to a popular frat bar........ This BLOWS! my bad for moving there but nonetheless is there not a sense of common respect for others property? Finding habitable property in the city right now is slim and none so... ENTER SCENE FRAT BAR: I park behind a gate in a double shot gun style apartment so these tools don't kick, punch, dump drinks, or eat on my new 06 tacoma with the boomin system mane. So I have a "Tow Away Zone" sign on the gate facing the sidewalk and street and just because there's no ramp up to the gate they think they can park there. To top it off I'm on my 5th sign. I have a land rover discovery sitting in my driveway right now the plate is georgia the bumper stickers say Tulane University and 3greek letters a girls for sure. I checked the locks, its sealed. Gps just sitting on the dash, starbucks cup on in the holder and a pair of ruby slippers in the floorboard. I can't get it towed!!!!! Services say if its not on your side of the sidewalk its on public property and they can't do sheeeeiittt. Called NOPD talked to a senior citizen that says 658-8000, I was like what? Thats who I call? "yes" ok? I call it rings and says "Thank You, Goodbye." WTF? and cues me to leave a message, a message for what? All because some self centered piece of dump excuse for a primate can get another one from daddy if something happens. NO MORE I SAY! THE PIRATE FLAG HAS BEEN RUN, AND ITS TIME FOR PAYBACK!!!!!!!! (report)
Denise98 (3/10): Good for them for Towing you! I work in a congested area in NYC and thought I had the perfect set up when I came to work for a company that has a garage and I got a parking space. But it has turned into a nightmare. I can't tell you how many nights I've left my office only to find out I can't get my car out of the garage because someone has our driveway blocked. At least 3 times a week I stand outside after work at least an hour waiting for someone to move their car. It's infuriating.. and it infringes on my life.. I've missed a wake, been late meeting friends and even had to stop taking evening classes because I was late more often than not. STOP AND THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU PARK AND HOW YOU MIGHT INCONVENIENCE OTHERS! (report)
Anonymous (3/16): Blocking the access and egress to someone's legitimate parking space is the same as parking in their space, in most law's eyes. (Not sure of the *specific* laws of where you parked.) Clearly, if you have even a suspicion that you may be wrong, you should not have parked where you did. If the fault is, as you claim, due to the company car's size, then try to convince your company pay for the parking ticket. I applaud the person for having you towed, and only wish they hadn't been cowardly and lied when they said they had not. Warnings are for people who might not understand what you did was wrong. Clear violations demand clear consequences. (report)
Anonymous (6/24): Hey "Bones", why should I have to risk damaging my car getting in and out of MY property, because of some idiot who thinks they need to drive a tank, then squeeze it in where it doesn't fit? This is a big problem in LA, where people will double park their Escalade, or park so badly that it displaces the entire row of parking, wasting several otherwise usable spaces. I see people parking in really stupid places, even red zones or other clearly marked "no parking at any time" areas, because they think they are too important to park down the street from Starbucks (more often than not, these are more expensive cars, so it's easy to see the egos at work here). (report)
zhanadoo (2/2): Good for them! I have a small 2 car garbage that barely fits my two cars. People are always right up against the curb to the left and right. it is almost impossible to back out. I have left letters and notes. it does nothing. These idiots know what they are doing wrong. they just dont care. i live in a neighborhood where there is plenty of street parking, but you may have to walk 20 feet extra to get to whoever you're visiting. I understand that the Towing companies are predatory sharks. But I don't care if an ass like yourself has to pay $300. Don't park in front of people's homes. that lady you berated doesn't park her escalade in front of your mobile home. (report)
Anonymous (4/16): In the State of Washington, it's unlawful to park within 5 feet of a driveway. I have Mexican neighbors who constantly have visitor's, and on at least two occasions, I have discovered that my driveway has been about 90% blocked. One of my cars is totally blocked, and the other would need to be driven on the grass, just to get about the blocking car. (report)
TiredOfIt (7/23): GOOD!!! I deal with this dead beat that is hiding her car from the repo man and every nite she parks this car infront of my house and she continues to do this even though I have asked her not to. Now my neighbors think I have something going on behind my husbands back because this car pulls up every night same time and my husband happens to work grave so the time is 15 minutes after my husband leaves. The owner needs to park somewhere else or if someone can tell me how to find out what banks owns it I will let them know where and when they can find their car!!! (report)
tahj84 (12/9): It doesn't really matter how you feel about it because it is the owners home! They pay good money for their home and I am sure you aren't the only offender so they took it out on you >< hate your luck. This shouldn't even be an isue though. It isn't your property so don't park there it is that simple. Someone shouldn't have to do something outragous and clutter up their yard with junk to keep you from parking on THEIR property. (report)

Anonymous (10/4): I tried to get someone towed and by the time cops arrived the guy pulled away and left. Only if they came faster. I think you got what you deserved. (report)
baffy (6/13): Oh please. If YOU don't live there, DON'T park there! You weren't, in your opinion, blocking their driveway, but that's only one side of the story, isn't it? I bet you don't do this again.....so lesson learned, right? And madam, people paying rent/mortgage should not have to "put up a sign" on their property; people should have enough sense to not park too close to a driveway. And it is illegal to paint a curb or lines on the street. Are you really THAT fresh off the farm? I live on a street with townhomes, and ignorant people feel free to park on the street--on the side of the homes, blocking driveways or making it entirely difficult to back out of one's driveway. So good for them! There goes the money for that Coach bag you had your eye on, huh? (report)
Anonymous (11/28): You definitely deserved it. You even admit you were blocking apartment parking -- don't you think it had more to do with being illegally parked than with just parking in front of that person's house? You were the one being rude here. (report)
Anonymous (12/24): You deserve it scumbag! Awww, boo hoo, you have a big car, I guess you shouldn't have to follow the same rules as everybody else. You're lucky you didn't park in front of my driveway or you'd get some sugar in your gas tank or expanding foam sprayed up your tailpipe. (report)
Anonymous (2/14): Marina people? You're an idiot for parking there and deserve to get your a** kicked for posting this note. Just another one of those people who think they are always right and "vent" to justify your point of view! Get a life. (report)

pearl15_1999 (12/8): What a rip-off, just another way to steal money from you. I see this happen a lot in Los Angeles in Korea town near Olympic and Normandie. I was there about 3 days for a festival and seen about 20 cars towed away. This happens a lot in all the cities. Here in St. louis they even had an empty lot with no signs posted about no parking and as soon as you parked and left a tow truck comes and tows your car away. They had a man on the roof with binoculars watching for people to park. Once they left the lot the tow driver put up no parking signs. I also hear it is very bad in Philadelphia, pa. This seems to be a big problem in this country. Hope things work out for you. (report)
Bones (12/9): If they are blocked and cannot get in or out of their garage I support towing. But if they can get in or out but are just inconvienenced with a tight squeeze, I don't support towing and recommend notes etc. $300 fine just the effort to get your car back from the police hardly seems fair for a tight squeeze. (report)
honest_Injun (12/16): Yooo hooo... anyone there??? If you had parked so carefully why did you get towed.... Truth is you moron that your car was hanging over their driveway or else you would not have been towed. Come on dear child... learn to tell the truth...!!! So you paid $300 for the privilege... well thats what you get for owning a BIG COMPANY CAR and over running other people's drives. As for writing a note..?? Get real, if different people blocked your drive routinely, would you patiently keep on writing notes? Sheesh I have seen and read some crap in my time but this article really beats them all. Get a life, get a smaller car and take some parking lessons you idiot!!! (report)
Anonymous (1/10): My self-centered neighbor had our house guest's car towed away because she parked it in front of his house and it was his usual spot to park. He thinks he owns the spot, when in reality, since there's only parking on one side of our street, it's just as much our most convenient spot as it is his. We just happen to park in our garage, but could easily park on the street everyday as most people do. He claimed he thought it was an abandoned car, but she had been staying with us for over a month prior, and he had to have seen the car coming and going. He called the police and they marked the tires, and three days later it was towed. Since she was on vacation and because none of our other neighbors would ever do something so rude without consulting neighbors first, we weren't checking the car or worried about it. We had to pay $200 to get the car out of impound, besides the time going to get it, plus the initial distress of thinking her car was stolen. Some jerks think they own the public street in front of their homes. (report)
towingvictim (2/23): I can tell you, as a person that worked in the towing industry for 25 yrs, that wrecker drivers are criminals.. Some towing company owners were criminals before going into business and only hire criminals, to do one thing, "STEAL". (report)
TowVictim2 (6/10): I am going to be writing a book on the towing scam. I recently went through the same thing-- came home one day looking for my car--thought it was stolen. There is nothing that will make your blood boil more than having your car towed without forewarning. "Towingvictim" is right on the money. Tow wreck drivers are criminals and so are the owners! The fact is, nobody knows how to rebut their charges and give them hell for stealing your car! My book is going to show you how to do this ! (report)
Anonymous (6/24): How bout having your car towed from your own parking spot since the security didnt see your sticker well enough on the dash board! Towing cost $280....bastards!!! (report)
tatugniq (11/8): I agree, and everyone else should shut up if they disagree. Think about this other side of the coin: the innocent people who are doing what is right and making sure they are not in the way..where else do they have to park? So your gonna just give them a hard time and make them pay more money into the "system" which already takes their fair share. What if she was a single mother and needed that money for diapers? Sure we can make up many scenarios but seriously, I am sick, so sick of UNNECESSARY fees!!! (report)
mikeyh (2/23): my car got towed 3 days ago i thoght i was losing my mind aswel i couldnt remeber weather i actually parked my car there or not so i rang leeds council and they told me were it was then went down to getr it and they told me i had to go to the police station so i went then they told me i needed both parts of my lisence and insurence details which really fucked me off as they were at my parents home so i a writing now while my car is locked up unfairly and all the while the coast of getting it back is rising. HOW THEY GET AWAY WITH IT I DONT KNOW IT SHOULD BE STOPPED AND EVEY 1 HOW TOWED MY CAR SHOULD BE SHOT (BASTARDS) (report)
xstarunitx (7/30): I am moving out of my apt. today was supposed to be my last day. I was supposed to make TWO last trips getting stuff out of my apt and taking it to my new one. I walked outside at 5am today and my mother's car was gone. I switched cars with her because my little sports car cannot hold much stuff. she has a truck. but my apt complex has a towing company that is 24/7 and they are tow crazy. my mom's truck doesn't have a permit sticker but when i asked the office previously, they said they don't tow until more than 2 violations have been recorded!!! I have never had a violation. If I have, wouldn't they let me know?? I came back inside and started panicing, and immediately called the police who confirmed my mom's truck had been taken to a nearby city that's over 15 miles away!! What's worse is our phones have just gotten turned off due to so much financial strain so i had NO Way of contacting my mother to let her know of this incident until she arrived at her office so i could email her. Thank god for wi-fi. But we are about to have to shell out $240 for towing fees. I feel this is an injustice because the apt management told me that i wouldn't need a sticker for my mom's car. I'm so infuriated, I want to dispute the whole thing, but I don't know if I'll be able to... or if i'll look like a fool. Still... I'm very pissed. There should have been a warning of some sort before they tow. Which... they only tow LATE at night... you know, the time everyone's asleep so they can get more money? Conspiracy I say. (report)
xstarunitx (7/30): Oh yeah, to all the haters saying "you deserved it" a lot of us did not deserve it. So stop assuming because you're only making yourself look like a fucking idiot. I LIVE HERE. currently at least. until tomorrow since i have to ask the complex for an extension because of this mishap. I was not illegally parked, as goes the same for many other TOW VICTIMS. I was parked OUTSIDE of the residential parking, in the designated visitor and NEW VISITOR (Aka MOVERS PARKING) area... and I was still towed. That's the injustice. Also... JUST BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NOT A HUGE UHAUL TRUCK that takes up 2 parking spaces of the RESIDENTIAL parking... they tow it, but look the other way to the obscene uhaul truck??? bah! (report)
Anonymous (1/5): My car got towed from IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I own it fully tags are up to date and its inspected up until 12/10 when i called the police station they said the car was abandoned as it hasnt been moved in 3 days... Ive been on vacation for 2 weeks I only know because my cousin called me to tell me. I feel your pain! (report)
ann (1/15): You were complaining about being towed and the part of this post that got me the most was: "I even backed up and was blocking a bit of the big apt building parking just to be on the safe side." So how is that safe, you were still blocking an area. If your truck is to big to fit, then maybe you should park somewhere else. This may mean you would have to park farther away and this would be inconvenient but at least you would not be inconveniencing other people. As a person who lives in apartments, I constantly come home to random people parked in my designated spot. It seems like people are so lazy, instead of parking in an appropriate place, they pick the area closest to thier destination. It doesn't seem to matter if they are blocking an area or taking someones spot. That is just rude, and when you do this it is completely inconsiderate. Not only are you being inconsiderate of the people who PAY TO LIVE THERE, you are also breaking the law. It is illegal to block a driveway, it is a fire hazard! And the fact that you are actually blaming the home owner for having you towed and costing you $300 dollars. She did not cost you $300 dollars. You parked there, you cost yourself $300 dollars! And why should she be resposible for leaving you a note asking you to not do something you shouldn't be doing anyway? Take some resposibility for your actions. (report)
